| Rodney Mullen, skateboarding godfather. A champion at the age of fourteen, an entrepreneur, a scholar, and most influential human to the skateboarding community. |
As the first blog post of this page I though the film "A beautiful Mind" was perfect to begin with. This is because Rodney Mullen is actually regarded as the godfather of skateboarding due to his invention of several skateboarding tricks such as the kick-flip, trey flip, impossible, etc aside from his other accomplishments. The skateboarding community as Mullen elaborates is one in which creates and then gives it back. In a sense giving a other title as innovators to skateboarders. To be an innovator is to change the norms of something established; one example being how in a skateboarders perspective a bench is no longer a thing to sit on but instead something to utilize for the purpose of having fun, challenging yourself, and I guess we can say taking some slams here and there (...haha).
Now in modern day society, skateboarders give back to the community intentionally and unintentionally through posting their tricks on Instagram, creating and then sharing skateboarding video parts that highlight an individuals best tricks filmed. Giving each other trick tips, and or simply maintaining the authentic vibe of skateboarding; which is to have fun while figuring out how to move forward. Inevitably, progression becomes one of skateboarding most important factor and not only through expanding you trick list but by growing as an individual to better interact and form social bonds with others while skateboarding teaches us that the world is our play ground.
There is without a doubt much more to skateboarding then what I can provide. Although I can say that what I have explained was inherited through skateboarders and by skateboarding around others for 5 years. So in a way, I gave you a pretty good chunk...well to start with at least. For my fellow brothers and sisters that skate...please feel free to comment your thoughts for whatever reason. Thank You! NOW GO SKATE....
